Casual Discussion

Young people’s voices will shape our ethos; weekly participation events such as “pizza Wednesday” will be encouraged and promoted by staff - as such this is where we will ascertain the views of the young people using the service. As well as “pizza Wednesday “the young people will be encouraged to partake in “sizzling Saturday” where they will cook breakfast for each other, staff will also promote and support the young people to cook a Sunday lunch each week.

Enhancing their cooking skills and also helping them feel part of a community and have a sense of belonging. We feel it is important our young people have a good morning routine; as this is key to setting you up to have a good day. As part of the package offered to LA’s breakfast items will be provided to the young people in the home. There will always be cereal, bread, milk, butter and orange juice in the fridge for young people to access on a morning.

A copy of our Young Peoples Handbook is also given to every new young person upon arrival at their placement. The handbook contains all the key things that every young person needs to know about so that they can make informed decisions about their placement.

This includes our core values, rules and procedures, and rights and responsibilities for young people. Our staff take them through the handbook to ensure that they understand all the rules and policies.

If the young person is a match for our service a matching form will be completed by the supportive steps staff and uploaded to the system. Following this a placement planning meeting will be held where by a thorough risk assessment, crisis management and safety plan and tenancy agreement will be made with the young person, LA SW and staff member of supportive steps.

Through well-structured Risk Assessments, Individual Care Plans, motivated and skilled staff our aim is to ensure that the path to independence is maximised for the vulnerable young people we work with.
